R Kelly Loses a Majority of His $28k Prison Inmate Fund to Feds

R Kelly Loses His Inmate Funds

After failing to pay $140,000 in court fees, R Kelly has lost around $28,000 from his inmate commissary fund. Prosecutors demanded the court to take action after the shameful musician did not fulfill his legal responsibility.

The Bureau of Prisons put a hold on his fund, leaving only $500 to his name. Jennifer Bonjean, R Kelly’s lawyer, took it to Twitter to call the government ”unethical.” In a tweet, she wrote, ”After seizing his funds and after sending this email, @EDNYnews decided to file a motion to confiscate his trust account money. You’re supposed to do that BEFORE you take the money.”

R. Kelly’s Prison Sentencing

The famous entertainment figure was given three decades in prison by Judge Ann Donnelly in June of this year. He was found guilty on nine counts of different crimes including sex trafficking and racketeering. There were eleven victims that gave a testimony against Kelly for his abuse.

Federal prosecutors said, “He committed these crimes using his fame and stardom as both a shield, which prevented close scrutiny or condemnation of his actions. And a sword, which gave him access to wealth and a network of enablers to facilitate his crimes, and an adoring fan base from which to cull his victims.”

R. Kelly’s Attorney Talks About His Sentencing

After the sentencing, Kelly’s attorney expressed her opinion on the additional RICO charge he faced. In a press conference, she said, “These were isolated events that happened many years and the government simply tried to plead around the statute of limitations to bring in a RICO charge, which was inappropriate.“

Suicide Watch Following The Sentencing

Following the federal ruling, the singer was placed on suicide watch. Despite his attorney fighting against this, prosecutors claimed that he was put on watch due to his celebrity status. Eventually, Kelly was taken off suicide watch after a lawsuit was filed against the detention center.
